Role summary

To work within the CDK Global Engineering and Architecture team with specific focus on network engineering, architecture, standards, solution consulting and escalated support of network services and products.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Work as part of global team, and in conjunction with hosting and software teams to design and implement network infrastructure in datacentres, CDK sites and in support of customer deployments.
  • Develop and manage standards for network infrastructure and services.
  • Manage and maintain network infrastructure documentation according to agreed standards.
  • Develop and maintain network infrastructure deployment processes.
  • Provide consulting for major/complex customer and business projects.
  • Escalation point to assist troubleshooting and resolution of chronic and major issues.
  • Maintain awareness and knowledge of new and emerging technologies that could benefit the services and network products that CDK provide and supply.
  • Support the selection of products and partners for integration in the delivery of network services and infrastructure.
  • Provide infrastructure and support documentation and training to Networks Backline team.
  • Work extended hours where necessary.
  • To undertake any other duties that may reasonably be requested.

Job function competencies

  • Demonstrates exceptional problem solving skills.
  • Has years demonstrable experience in a network operations and engineering roles, including positions of significant responsibility across large, complex global infrastructures.
  • Self-motivated, able to work with initiative under minimal supervision.
  • Excellent time management.
  • Able to communicate concepts, problems and solutions articulately, in a clear and concise manner.
  • Able to provide authoritative representation of network infrastructure engineering and architecture functions too all areas and levels of CDK Global business.
  • Commercial awareness, ideally with customer-facing exposure.
  • Experience of controlling large scale projects.
  • Proven experience of contributing across a global infrastructure, and working with remote colleagues in geographically dispersed teams.

Experience and/or qualifications required

 

  • Excellent networking knowledge.
  • LAN/WAN protocols and design.
  • SDWAN, Cloud services.
  • VLANs.
  • Load Balancing.
  • Firewalls, IDP.
  • Proxies.
  • IPSec.
  • Experience of network deployment projects including the production and maintenance of network diagrams and supporting documentation.

 

Specific technical knowledge should include:

  • Cisco certification.
  • Fortigate.
  • F5.
  • MPLS.
  • VPNs, DMVPNs.

Personal skills required

  • Ability to work unsupervised and prioritise own workload.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to work both individually as well as part of a team.
  • Responsibility – recognise when problems need escalating.
  • Accountability – be able to take ownership of problems and see them through to a satisfactory conclusion.
  • Professional personal presentation, as attendance at customer meetings/sites may be required.
  • Presentation/training skills essential.
