We are currently seeking an experienced Storage Engineer/Architect to design and implement the Storage and SAN environments over a number of different countries. This is an opportunity to lead a core part of our infrastructure through generation of recommendations and thought leadership, reporting directly to the Director of Infrastructure Engineering. 

 

Working as part of the Global Hosting infrastructure team at CDK, we are responsible for delivering the Platform Infrastructure used within our rapidly growing International Data Centre and cloud locations. Platform related products include, but are not limited to, such areas as Data Centre, hosting & cloud services, Compute, Server & Hypervisor, SAN, Storage, Backup solutions, Operating systems and back office solutions. 

 

Key Duties & Responsibilities
•    Work as part of a team to define, design and implement the Platform Infrastructure used within the International Data Centres.
•    Be “the company expert” and technical authority for the Storage and SAN environments.
•    Help define, design and implement the monitoring and automation tools used within our Data Centres.
•    Keep up-to-date with new and emerging technologies that could benefit the services and platform products that CDK provide and supply.
•    Provide 3rd line support escalation to the hosting support teams. Provide technical training to those backline and operations teams as required.
•    Support the team in selecting products and partners, providing all necessary documentation for launch, implementation and support of designated products. 
•    Perform technical POCs and solution validations & recommendations.
•    Be involved in data centre & infrastructure refresh and migration activities.

 

Essential Skills/Abilities:
•    Excellent understanding of Dell EMC storage products such as VMAX & PowerMax All Flash, Unity and VNX. Not only from a hands-on administration point of view, but also from an implementation and design perspective.
•    Proven experience of configuring, manipulation & monitoring of key storage functionality such as SRDF/Mirrorview & Snapshots, FAST tiering/pools, compression & deduplication.
•    SAN design, configuration & management, including upgrades and new installations. Experience of both Brocade and Cisco MDS FC SAN switches is highly desirable.
•    Scripting: bash/ksh, and REST integration
•    An understanding and experience of designing with Disaster Recovery in mind
•    Experience of designing solutions for large scale VMWare, Linux, Windows and AIX environments.
•    Can communicate problems and solutions articulately, in a clear and concise manner
•    Proficient in system configuration and build documentation generation
•    Demonstrates exceptional problem solving skills.
•    Providing in-depth investigations and root cause analysis of incidents and outages
•    Provide strategic direction and ensuring the delivery of technical based projects
•    Deployment of new platforms and improvements to existing ones
•    Designing complex solutions and providing architectural recommendations

 

Desirable skills/Abilities (but not essential):
•    Cloud Storage concepts and supplier offerings
•    FC, FC-IP, iSCSI and file access methods & protocols
•    Experience of using storage Resource monitoring tools such as vRops or SolarWinds SRM
•    VMware administration
•    Experience of backup solutions and technologies
•    Performing capacity Planning functions and report generation
•    Defining policies and procedures for storage practices and consumption
•    Has 5+ years’ experience, having held a senior technical level position for at least 2 of those.
•    Self-motivator that works under minimal supervision.
•    Develop and maintain solution roadmaps
•    Understand the tiers of long term archive storage solutions available, both within the Data Centre and the major cloud providers.
•    Having experience of hybrid compute environments is highly beneficial, together with an understanding of AWS offerings.
