Job Description:

We are seeking a Unix Systems Administrator with at least 5+ years of experience supporting customer production and testing environments for a company with multiple 24X7 Hosted Applications services data centers. Must have experience supporting N-Tier applications with multiple Unix based operating systems with emphasis on CentOS/RedHat. Strong knowledge of critical Unix techniques, performance, and Kernel/OS support functions. Solid experience with Bind/DNS, and fundamental knowledge of networking TCP/IP, system configuration tools (CFengine, puppet), and configuration management.

Eligibility Criteria:

- 5+ years of designing and working with Unix Server operating systems environments with focus on CentOs & RedHat Linux and Oracle Enterprise Linux.

- Strong linux performance and kernel analysis skills.  

- Knowledge of hosting/SaaS/ASP environments focusing on systems performance and high availability.

- Knowledge and exposure to managing complex DNS implementations
- Strong Familiarity with Vcenter/VSphere, VMware cluster activities and capabilities.
- Good working knowledge of TCP/IP, Layer2 & 3 Network

- Good working knowledge of SAN, NFS and direct storage configurations

- Application of and adherence to industry and best-practice standard in regards to security as it applies to core technologies.

- Exposure to Web Server technologies (Tomcat, Apache, IIS etc)

- Exposure to relational databases (MySQL and/or Oracle (10g RAC)) as it relates to systems administration duties.

- Experience with Configuration management tools and services such as CFengine, Puppet, Pulp/Spacewalk and Kickstart.

- Analytical skills necessary to ensure assignments are implemented in a clear, controlled, and anticipated fashion.
- Ability to quickly learn about procedures and technologies for systems and applications and to apply new knowledge in small to medium size tasks.
- Demonstrated clear and professional written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in creating process and procedural documentation.
- Work effectively with all levels of company staff; must be a self-starter, and work well in a team environment.

- Fundamental knowledge of programming/Scripting languages, preferable PERL, SH, KSH.

- General knowledge of HTTP, NFS, DNS, LDAP, NTP, Postgres, Sendmail, and POSTFIX.

- Exposure/experience with cloud based technologies (AWS) preferred

- Knowledge of Puppet Labs Configuration Management Experience Preferred.

- Fundamental experience/knowledge of working in a Microsoft Server based environment a plus.
- BS/BA degree in Computer Science or related discipline or equivalent experience and a minimum of 5 years related work experience.
- Preferred RedHat Certification.

 

Essential Functions:
- Strong team member in Linux, install, administer and support production servers in multiple project capacity.
- Support of ongoing requests and incidents throughout the CDK environments.

- Assist with managing Bind/DNS environment. Additional help with windows based domain DNS management a plus.
- Ensure the development and enforcement of server configurations and operating standards through tools such as CFengine and Puppet.
- Support application components in a Linux RedHat/CentOS hosted environment with specific focus on Java based solutions.
- Assist with identifying and escalating key concerns with regards to performance bottle necks, capacity, availability or implementation standards.


Secondary Functions:
- Experience partnering with product and technical stakeholders providing customer support and post operation documentation.
- Ability to multi-task and manage workloads in a 24x7 environment.

Scope and Accountability:
- This position will interact primarily with Operational staff, Systems Engineers and other Engineering teams to maintain and provide operational support for Linux systems while helping to maintain existing methodologies and standards.
- Assignments usually come from the Systems Engineering Manager or Director
- Strong independent decision making; makes recommendations; take action; performs work under minimal supervision.
